Overall this is fantastic single malt. One of the best Irish Single Malt expressions. A great example of a peated but balanced whiskey. Not to everyone’s taste. Peated whiskeys can be too intense for the casual whiskey drinker. However, Connemara Single Malt isn’t overly peated. The sweet notes and fruit are given plenty of room to open up. This is a great whiskey in it’s own right but it is also a great introduction to peated whiskeys.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Very potent and phenolic peat smoke. The peat smoke is balanced however, it doesn’t overwhelm the fruit notes. There’s some dried tropical fruits. Some coconut and dried berries.

Palate: Oily and rich. Peat smoke is still there but intensity dies down and the sweet fruit notes are given room to open up. Vanilla and cream notes are there. Almost rich dessert in taste.

Finish: Medium finish of vanilla and oak with some peat smoke lingering.
