Midleton Very Rare Barry Crockett Legacy 700 ml, 46% ABV

Master winner at the Irish Whiskey Masters in both 2021 and 2022! This rebranded Midleton Barry Crockett Legacy was created to commemorate the career of the former master distiller who retired in 2013 after 47 years at the distillery. Barry himself helped to formulate this single pot still and it is highly regarded as one of the best in the range. The pot still elements used are drawn from light, medium and heavy styles and the spirit is mostly matured in 1st fill bourbon casks with a small amount going into virgin American oak. There is no age statement but some of the whiskey used is very old (around 25 years).

The aromatics, which are typical of the character delivered by pot still distillation, are generously complimented by a touch of lime, succulent green berries, pears and some green sweet pepper. The sweetness of vanilla and the deeper charred oak notes represent the seamless contribution made by maturation in best quality casks

Unusually for a Midleton a proportion is matured in new oak barrels, along with the usual ex-Bourbon cask ageing.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Elegant aroma of vanilla and toasted oak complimented by a touch of lime, succulent green berries, pears and green sweet pepper.
Palate: Light pepper carries onto fresh citrus, limes and mandarin orange sweetness. A hint of cinnamon with vanilla and oak reveals its years spent in American oak.
Finish: The full spectrum of flavours lasts well into the finish, slowly fading to expose the clean American oak foundation.
